The Government of India has released the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, transferring more than ₹18,640 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.32 crore farmers.
The installment was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 13, 2026, from Guwahati. Notably, over 2.15 crore women farmers are among the beneficiaries, reflecting the scheme’s inclusive approach.
Since its launch in 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme has disbursed more than ₹4.27 lakh crore, making it one of the largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiatives globally. The scheme provides ₹6,000 annually to eligible farmer families in three equal installments.
Implemented with Aadhaar-based authentication and digitized land records, the program ensures transparency and eliminates intermediaries, enabling efficient and direct financial support.
The scheme has significantly boosted farmers’ confidence and productivity. Beneficiaries across India report using the funds to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and other essential agricultural inputs, leading to improved crop yields and reduced dependence on informal credit.
Institutions such as the International Food Policy Research Institute and NITI Aayog have highlighted that the scheme has positively impacted agricultural income and reduced reliance on high-interest loans.
With continuous technological integration, including mobile apps, e-KYC systems, and AI-powered support like Kisan e-Mitra, the government aims to further strengthen service delivery and transparency.
The PM-KISAN scheme continues to play a crucial role in supporting small and marginal farmers, contributing to rural development and strengthening India’s agricultural economy.
