In one of the largest anti-narcotics operations ever carried out in Madhya Pradesh, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) dismantled a massive illegal methamphetamine manufacturing unit in Thawlay village, Mhow tehsil of Indore district.
The three-day operation resulted in the seizure of 43.820 kg of high-quality methamphetamine (MD), more than 260 kg of precursor chemicals, and advanced manufacturing equipment. With an earlier recovery of 8.172 kg of crystal methamphetamine from two bus passengers in Mandsaur, the total seizure in the entire operation reached 51.992 kg of MD.
All narcotic substances and chemicals were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
How the Operation Unfolded
The breakthrough came after the Neemuch branch of CBN received specific intelligence inputs. On the night of February 13, 2026, officials intercepted a bus in Mandsaur and recovered 8.172 kg of high-purity crystal methamphetamine from two passengers.
During questioning, the accused revealed that the drugs were sourced directly from a clandestine manufacturing laboratory. Acting swiftly, CBN formed a special coordinated team involving officers from Neemuch, Ujjain, Jaora, and Mandsaur to trace the source.
Further investigation led officials to a suspected manufacturing facility near Mhow. On the morning of February 14, officers identified the premises but initially delayed entry due to strong chemical fumes and potential health hazards. A specialized team equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE) was deployed from Neemuch to conduct a safe search.
High-Tech Drug Lab Dismantled
Inside the premises, officials discovered modern machinery and advanced plant equipment used for the production of synthetic drugs. Technical assistance was sought from engineers and chemists of the Government Opium and Alkaloid Works (GOAW), Neemuch.
A four-member expert team reached the site on the night of February 15 and successfully dismantled and destroyed the sophisticated manufacturing setup. The entire operation concluded on the morning of February 15.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
The two individuals arrested in Mandsaur have been charged under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985. Additionally, the owner of the house where the secret laboratory was operating has been taken into custody.
Authorities confirmed that further investigations are underway to identify and dismantle the broader network involved in the manufacturing and distribution of synthetic drugs.
Commitment Against Drug Trafficking
The operation highlights the commitment, coordination, and swift intelligence-based action of CBN officials. Despite limited time and information, the agency successfully uncovered one of the largest synthetic drug labs ever detected in the state.
The CBN reiterated its firm resolve to combat the menace of narcotics and work towards a drug-free India.
